Embodying Abundance: 8 Things I've Learned

I’ve been exploring abundance in a number of different ways this year. On my podcast, I’ve spoken about how abundance is anti-capitalist and did another episode on why radical generosity is the answer. In episodes with Marlee Grace and Toi Smith, we explored healing money stuff, anti-capitalist business, and ways of creating new models around work and worth.

I’ve shifted some pretty big beliefs in my own life this year: one is that making money needs to be hard. (Oof, is that you, too? Boy, bye.)

I have an incredible job that couldn’t be more rewarding, and also, I’ve noticed a stubborn and majorly-not-cute belief crop up over the years: that making money has to be difficult. My inner-saboteur-cum-sweet-subconscious-self would often create that reality. This was the year that I decided to transmute that belief. It’s working. My business has never made more money more easily. 

In my latest online course, Embodying Abundance, I created something I’ve never seen before, that is deeply needed. It is based on the premise that abundance takes place in the body, and that feeling safe and resourced in our bodies and connected to our desires helps us feel safe enough to become expansive and connect to our uniqueness, inherent worthiness, and abundance.

I’ve connected the dots between the body, beliefs, behaviors, magic, trauma, capitalism, and abundance to help you heal scarcity and step into a more abundant life.

Below are some of the things I've learned about abundance that have shifted my relationship to my own inherent abundance. If these resonate with you, you're going to love my Embodying Abundance online course.

1. Most people are programmed to be in a state of scarcity, not abundance. Most people accept scarcity as the norm in their lives because it is both the norm in society and in their subconscious. So, their abundance becomes intertwined with scarcity—scarcity-infused, if you will. In reality, you are inherently abundant: everything you need is within. 

2. We must define abundance for ourselves, outside the capitalism model of accumulation, materialism, and hoarding. What that means is that sometimes “abundance” means “less” or “streamlined” or “simple”. Here’s an easy way to figure out your own definition of abundance: what does abundance symbolize to you? Go from there. 

3. Because our definition of abundance is a symbol of our desires, we must get clear about what those are. We must accept what those are without shame. We must cultivate those symbols in our everyday lives and feel those in our bodies. Here. Now. It is through the present moment, which is the only moment, that we transform.  

4. Our definitions of abundance will change as we do. Abundance is a process, like nature. There are times for rest, times to acquire, times to grow, and times to relish the decay. Letting go and clearing are absolutely aspects of abundance!  

5. Our connection to abundance influences every aspect of our life. If we never feel like we are more than enough, we will make decisions from that place. We will accept crumbs and those crumbs become the norm. If we are too attached to scarcity-infused abundance, the house will never be big enough, the accolades will never satiate. Conversely, if we feel and understand that we are inherently worthy, our decisions and actions will be taken from that place. 

6. Abundance is a practice. We “fake it until we make it.” Otherwise known as learning! We didn’t know how to tie our shoes, we learned how. We practice embodying abundance. We practice sitting in the discomfort that intimacy and pleasure can bring. We learn how to set boundaries, take risks, and regulate our nervous systems. We learn how we can relax into a resourced state by practicing somatics, listening to our body, being mindful, and through other various techniques. All of these practices add up. Our cells, thoughts, and entire state of being shifts. 

7. Healing our scarcity wounds and programming takes time, so we must be patient. Because there is often trauma involved, it is encouraged to seek additional support whenever needed. And also: it can also take much less time than you think! In my class, for a mere 30 days, many students had breakthroughs and experienced some major shifts in their relationship with abundance. One person quit a job that was draining her and began consulting, another implemented a daily exercise plan, one began healing her intimacy issues with money by ending a relationship that could not give her deep connection, and another conquered her fear of being seen. These are just a few examples. Normalize a healing timeline that might pleasantly surprise you! 

8. Abundance must include others. Yes, it is easier to heal in community—our mirror neurons influence one another. There is so much support we can offer one another. Ultimately, abundance includes the planet: nature, animals, and the elements. It is a community of care. Abundance is Free Palestine, Defund the Police, and healthcare for all. Becoming abundant means ensuring that others also can experience and have access to abundance, in all its forms, as well.
