Cosmic Clearing Away the Exhaustion:
A Psychic Cleansing Ritual for the May Lunar Eclipse
by Keon
The Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio will occur on Sunday, May 15th, 2022 at 9:15 pm PT/Monday, May 16th, 2022 at 12:15 am ET. The effects of this cosmic event create an opportunity for spiritual transformation through introspective shadow work. This gives us the opportunity to explore the hidden parts of ourselves. The themes for the month of May involve breaking old behavioral patterns that no longer serve us. Oftentimes, shadow work is a process of becoming aware of the ways that trauma, including intergenerational trauma, informs our present behaviors that limit spiritual growth and full self-actualization. The energy of this transit catalyzes deep soul purging and it challenges us to face some of our darkest shadows. Only by acknowledging our unconscious limiting behaviors and their effects on our lives are we able to begin productively integrating them into our narrative to live as our fullest, most authentic, and true selves.
Let’s first take a look at the sign of Scorpio, which is one of the three water signs of the Zodiac. I like to think of the Zodiac signs as different features of human and cosmic consciousness. Pisces, Scorpio, and Cancer all relate to the emotional and intuitive aspects of the human psyche and the ways these aspects influence our experience of life. The sign of Scorpio is associated with the deep waters of the unconscious, where parts of our past selves live. These are the parts of the self that we sometimes try to bury away as a result of a coping mechanism or another type of reaction to a traumatic event. Sometimes the wound is intergenerational and passed directly down the family line: It is our responsibility, and ultimately in our liberation’s best interest, to heal them.
While these growing pains aren’t always the easiest or most pleasant experiences, one can find power in their own shadows and imperfections by gaining more awareness of how these dynamics influence their conception of reality and how parts of their shadows show up in different areas of their life. The healing process begins when we decide to change certain patterns of behavior that no longer serve us to make space for ascension to a more expansive state of self-actualization.
In addition to the Scorpio Full Moon, there’s also going to be a Lunar Eclipse. Eclipses illuminate areas of the self and soul that have been buried away beneath layers of denial, trauma, and rejection. This Eclipse doubly adds to the intense energy that pushes us to go inward into the recesses of our psyche to shed light on the hidden parts of self that have inhibited our movement into the next stage of soul evolution.
As someone who is particularly psychically sensitive, I am often very affected by the dynamics of Eclipses. Around the time of Eclipse transits, I typically see a lot of themes related to shadow work in my daily divination and I feel a heightened sense of the presence of my Spirit guides. However, with this increased awareness often comes increased anxiety and spiritual exhaustion as a result of all the emotions that accompany shadow work. Divination during these times can sometimes conjure triggering memories of events or situations with other people that we’ve done our best to hide away or forget.
For these reasons, I’ve written some of my recommendations for a candle ritual and spiritual bath for cleansing after intense shadow work or any other exhaustion or fatigue one might be under at this time. This bath will help with the shedding process. So will awareness and acceptance around certain stories and realities that may surface at this time.
