Writing As Oracle

Writing As Oracle

Some of my most electric moments have come from looking back on my own divinatory writing.

Whether they be longer-form journal entries or wish fragments I’ve jotted down in my Many Moons, the specificity of how some of them transpired is downright eerie.

Once, I wrote down that I would make $88,000—an amount that, at the time, was a LEAP—and at the end of the year, my accounting added up just about that much. Magic!

Every year, I take extra care with what I share in
Many Moons, knowing that much of the time, what I write about will surface in all our lives, right on time.

Without fail, every year, I have at least one moment reading Many Moons with my hair raised on the back of my neck. Exactly what I’ve written about from the past has come to pass. I’m reading exactly what I need to hear now, as predicted from a past version of myself.

Like it or not, I have come to see aspects of my work as that of an Oracle of Words.

This writing as divination even extends to non-believers.
One year, my partner wrote that he wanted “free vacations.” Well, he got multiple international vacations… but they were all family-related and weren’t without their stressors.

Be
careful what you wish for.
Be
specific in what you wish for.

I’m currently reading Melissa Auf der Maur’s memoir, which is a deep dive into her years touring with Hole. I was surprised to learn that
Live Through This was released exactly one week after Kurt Cobain’s death, though it had been written long before. Themes of love, abandonment, loss, and death are woven through the album.

Can art be precognitive?

Even Melissa’s rock star trajectory was shaped by writing; letters to Billy Corgan led to a friendship, and then his recommendation of her to be Hole’s next bassist.

Writing with intention can profoundly change your life.

At the start of the year, I knew that words, symbols, and communication were going to be especially important. It is a
Magician Year, after all.

Abracadabra,
I create as I speak
I create like the word.

(Both are translations of this magical phrase.)

In the
Year Ahead Workshop series, we did thought work and identity exercises to explore what our subconscious believes about who we are, and how to detach from beliefs that aren’t connected to our dreams. We’re doing just that in our Intuition Course, as well.

It is just that important.
Our mind is an oracle, too.

I AM, some believe, is one of the most powerful self-hypnosis techniques because it underscores the truth of our existence. It is how God introduced themself in the Bible, and is a phrase used in Vedanta to connect to non-dual existence. It is a core affirmation connected to the Magician.

I AM AS I SPEAK

I AM AS I CREATE

A potent affirmation must begin with “I am.” Remember, affirmations will only work when they are statements of something you already believe to be true. If they are simply wishes, or something you want, but do not believe you have, they will not work.

For creatives and artists, what we write, especially what we write about ourselves and our work is of upmost importance. One of the most famous examples of this is Octavia Butler, whose diary entries are proof of the power of the written word.

Octavia knew exactly what she wanted her art to do, both for the collective and for herself, and she wrote it all down.

Spelling is a spell.

In this week’s episode of
Moonbeaming, we explore this topic with writer, curator, and editor Sarah Shin. She's also made an incredible contribution to Many Moons 2026 that explore all these topics!

We talk about Oracular writing, how symbolism and the subconscious overlap, and ancestral healing through narrative and embodiment.

If you’re a creative or intuitive looking to shape reality through the word and belief, this episode is for you.

Our Favorite Divinatory Texts

Quantum Listening. One of the best ways to develop your intuition is to become a fantastic listener. This instant classic as reprinted by Silver Press, is a portal inwards, connecting you to your inner ear, and is an invitation to merge with the greater environment.

The Alchemist. I know that every time I reread this text, something in my life will shift. This simple story of a humble sheepherder resonates on multiple levels, and is a testament to the power of coming home to yourself.

Many Moons. What can I say? She’s psychic. She’s a spell. You have to try it yourself to see. And right now, our last few copies are on sale. Start at any time and see what starts to unfold in your life.

The Tao Te Ching. One of my favorite divinatory practices is bibliomancy, and to get fantastic results, you need fantastic source material. The Tao Te Ching is a text I return to time and time again.

Undrowned. Some of the Moon Studio’s favorite texts are reimaginings and deeper dives on a subject through a radically unique perspective. Alexis Pauline Gumbs blends scientific observation of aquatic species with Black feminist thought. Through these meditations, she teaches us about communal survival and adaptation.
