May 2021 Tarotscopes

May 2021 Tarotscopes

This month may feel intense even if you can’t quite put your finger on why. Generally, this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere is potent and ripe. We are reminded of the sacredness of the earth and all her life. At the end of the month, Saturn and Mercury both station retrograde, around the same time as a Supermoon Eclipse—urging us to rethink patterns and processes. Pluto is retrograde, adding to the pull to turn inwards.

Some themes of the month are: holding change, shifts/around body/health, embodiment, lock and key, purpose, enlightenment found through limits, and a heightened focus on abundance. Use this month to marvel at the connections and relationships between us and the cosmos. Notice how all the work you've been doing thus far this year has yielded results. Pay attention to al the ways in which our body wishes to communicate with us. Make time to nourish it. Commit, or deepen, into practices of gratitude. Reconnect with your purpose. Create or tend to your gardens. Meditate on what it looks like to honor the earth and its inhabitants in tangible ways, through actions and reparative resource distribution.

The Tarotscopes below were channeled and written by meditating on each archetype and pulling a Tarot card for it. You can read for whatever sign you feel called to: some read for their Sun, rising, Moon, or all three. Please note: If you don’t know if you are allergic to a specific herb or plant, use caution or consult with your herbalist or doctor before ingesting. Never leave a lit candle or flame of any kind unattended.

Aries
The Empress

May is a month about working smarter, not harder. Much has been said about not equating one’s work with one’s worth. As the month begins, it would be useful for you to do some reflection upon your inherent value, period. Define your relationship to productivity. It’s wonderful to be wildly ambitious. it’s not ok to hold yourself up to impossible expectations.

You’ve got a lot to do: moves to make, hearts to break, and a ton to strategize about, especially long-term plans. Most importantly, you’ve got a lot to be: loving, magnetic, emotionally available to yourself, and to pleasure and fun too.

The growth you are desperate to see must be at your own, organic pace. No one gets angry at the time it takes a flower to bloom. No one feels entitled to dictating how fast a bird takes to crack out of the egg that was their first home. Appreciate how incredibly beautiful your natural growth has been this year, and tend to all the buds and blossoms that currently make up this month.

Suggested spell ingredients: snowflake obsidian, sage tea, a spell that prepares you for your own particular enlightenment, morning meditation, and an emphasis on presentism.

Taurus
The 7 of Wands

For a long time, you’ve wished that everything could be easier, not so hard-won. Now there is a breakthrough available around ease and flow. Eclipse season will bring heightened resistance to unnecessary hardship, and the opportunity to finally decide the vibration of your soul’s navigation.

A lot could come up this month that may cause you to get overly defensive and possessive. Let those moments be a chance to check out your own shadows and scarcity-mindedness. Most likely, the people ruffling your feathers don't even deserve a second glance, never mind a second chance. The more you truly take the high road, the easier the terrain becomes.

What we've all learned over the last 13 months is that everything is made up: time, status, success, the 40-hour workweek. What is most important is what you care about, so prioritize accordingly. It is up to you to make long-overdue decisions around how you define success and how you steward your energy. All changes in the key of self-respect will be supported.

Suggested spell ingredients: citrine, brahmi root tonic, a spell composed by many symbolic actions, Chasing Utopia: A Hybrid by Nikki Giovanni, salt scrubs, and dedicated reflection on letting go.

Gemini
Justice

You can have everything you want, just not all at the same time. Most likely, themes of patience, frustration, sacrifices, and balance will be underscored in May. Focus on what you can control. Want what you have now. Celebrate what you can. Plan when you’ll be shifting into the next want, the next need, the next level.

This month you'll be tempted to settle in order to put out fires or get things over with. Don’t make any rushed or fast moves. The encouragement this month is to think long-term.

More and more, you understand the importance of building things that are meant to last. Create systems that support higher visions over quick fixes. In your personal life, your inner circle, your most used-tools, and your daily rituals, invest in gold, not gold-plated. This is the month to hunker down with all that isn’t working and figure out how to get in right relationship so that more flows smoothly. This includes taking any tendencies towards codependency or reactivity to a journaling session or a therapist, not into spaces where this could backfire.

You are worth every bit of harmony, equity, and truth that you ask for. Don't accept anything less than what you offer up freely.

Suggested spell ingredients: clear quartz, lots of water, morning pages, playlists about self-love, and an afternoon spent hugging trees.

Cancer
The Moon

It’s not that nothing is changing, Moonchild, a lot is: time feels like quicksand and molasses, all at once. It’s more that you feel left out of some aspects of your life, unable to control the bigger picture items. You are aching for beautiful momentum and yet, here you are: tracing the same wounds, putting out the same fires, confined to the same outlines of a life that you have outgrown.

That stagnancy is now ready to be shaken up into rumbling shifts. May is going to be one big snap-out-of-it extravaganza, so put on your favorite outfit and don’t forget to hydrate. Eclipse season is especially potent for you, as the Moon is your consort and constant companion. Let her guide you into the Next Great Phase. Allow her messages to break you out of any ruts, remnants, or rotten foundations.

Internally and externally, there are completely new relationships to build. Change is happening from both the outside in, and the inside out. Remember that uncomfortable is not the same as bad. Challenges are evidence of growth, and the spotlight this month is on all the profound transformation you are choosing to make.

Suggested spell ingredients: aquamarine hearts, trust magic, grounding meditations, passionfruit, and bravery.

Leo
Ace of Cups

The more joy we make ourselves available for, the more it arrives on our doorsteps and flows into our hearts. This month is as much about cultivating awareness of all that revives your connection to positive life force, as it is removing all barriers that block your reception to it. Empathy doesn't mean martyrdom. There could be some instances this month where you are in heaven while those you love are in hell—or vice versa. Do what you can with what you’ve got. Celebrate every time you choose love over fear. Hunt down every bit of beauty possible.

Heartbreak is evidence of joy as well: it is the pang of a lost golden moment, a reminder that while time bares its sharp teeth we still remain innocent. Humans still need belonging like flowers need water. More and more, you hold the interlacing cords of grief and gratitude in your life’s tapestry. As you ebb and flow in the waves, let your highest ideals be your life raft. And don't forget to buy yourself flowers!

May will have its challenging moments, but the underlying theme for you, Lovely Leo, is about understanding the preciousness of self-respect. Stop confusing attention for adoration. Put your focus on who the most important people are, and deepen those connections. There are openings everywhere for you to give and receive unconditional, heart-quenching love. Look for them every day.

Suggested spell ingredients: impromptu dance parties, malachite, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers, Hawthorne tonic, roses, and open hands.

Virgo
3 of Wands

Your world is opening up more and more, and May is a month to keep yourself available for surprises of the very best kind. New combinations are ready for you to explore. Adjust your gaze to different horizons. If there's some dream you’ve been sitting on, some project you’ve been needing to initiate, this is the month to act.

Start slow, with an hour here and there, tucking into the recesses of your creativity with quiet abandon. Keep it close like a secret, give your practice space to germinate unfettered. Allow your process to guide your next steps—there's an aspect of mystery afoot. It’s as much about how it feels as it is about the final outcome.

Protect your health by preemptively nourishing it more than you ever have with attention and rest. Look towards diminishing your stress by seeing where you get caught up in urgency and self-judgment. Stay focused on what it takes to do your most sparkling work: and by work, I mean rising to the spiritual occasion of how you express your energy, dignity, and talent. If it costs you your peace of mind, it’s too expensive.

Suggested spell ingredients: bumblebee jasper, hibiscus tea, mornings spent with the sunrise, a homemade facial steam with dried chamomile, and a new hobby or exercise routine that encourages your forward momentum (such as Aikido, Kundalini yoga, or a running routine).

Libra
Ace of Pentacles

In May, you are on a mission. Tend to the flower beds in the garden of your life that are about long-term success, cash money, and ultimately, more time. This month is ripe for some serious consideration around a life where you benefit first and most. A contented Libra is a generous Libra: the more you receive, the more you give.

You've been dreaming up more space and wishing for a lot less obligations for a while now. It may not make sense to keep being so open, so available to so many for much longer. Your habits live in your body, so that's where a lot of this process will take place. Act first, then let muscles memorize movements towards spaciousness. Boundaries are not only beautiful, but are an integral piece of this flow-flavored pie.

Opportunities will flow into your world at a lightning pace in May. Many of them may not appear that way at first, so stay creative in thought and response. Many will be invisible or almost imperceptible: something that was thought up long ago, some idea that keeps circling in unexpected ways. It's time to make inspiration a reality.

Suggested spell ingredients: seeds or a plant that symbolizes your next phase, azurite, edible flowers such as nasturtiums, bird watching, and a calendar just for your creativity.

Scorpio
The Emperor

More than one area of your life requires your love and attention in May, most likely the facets that have to do with identity, what you own, and your overall trajectory. In more than one instance, it’s time to take back the reins: whether that be in daily regimens or in certain relationships. Be very, very clear on where control is healthy—in some situations it turns into a stand-in for safety or a haunting of past trauma. Surrender also looks like pouring your energy into what you can influence, and leaving what you can't.

With your familiar Pluto freshly retrograde, this is the perfect time to zoom out on your life to see where you've been coming up against the same roadblocks and makeshifts. With the upcoming Mercury retrograde, now is the perfect time to consider different ways to communicate your needs, and who you are now: to your loved ones, to the public, to the Universe.

Your life is a bridge between the spark of your spirit, the direction of your instinct, and the everyday actions you take to approach your vision. It is the connection between what you value and how you honor those values. This month will show you which of these components are out of alignment. You’ll have every bit of support in your self-development process, so long as you ask for it.

Suggested spell ingredients: meditations to bells and wind chimes, sunstone, an altar to your inner child or your most vulnerable self, dried lavender, and a new writing project or creative endeavor that marries your inner desires to clear expression.

Sagittarius
10 of Swords

May is a month to wash away all your needless suffering. Why do we suffer? Staying in stagnancy, believing in lies, thinking we are responsible for things we aren’t, being separated from Source, and confusing love for attention and underwhelm for normalcy, to name a few. There’s any number of ways to suffer and while you could write the book on it, this isn’t supposed to be the title of your memoir. Embrace all endings this month: this is how you write new chapters.

May is a month to stop knocking on the same doors that won’t open. To stop trying the same things that give you the same frustrating results. Withdraw your energy from relationships that drain it. May is a month for risks of the heart. To finally go for a number of things you’ve been putting off. A time to understand that certain baggage is incredibly heavy and doesn’t need to be carried anymore. Set it all down and fly, Sweet Sagittarius.

Just because something is challenging doesn’t mean it is bad. Just because you are in process isn't an excuse to put yourself down. Pretend you are a baby or your best friend. How would you talk to either? Ask for what you need. Remain patient. Remember to look up.

Suggested spell ingredients: honey on your tongue, hummingbirds, games that don't require a winner, tiger’s eye, and a candlelit bath or two.

Capricorn
Wheel of Fortune

If you think of this month like your own personal Alice in Wonderland adventure, you’ll be fine. What appears fantastic one moment may morph into a less-than-meet-cute. A situation that at first appears lackluster may blossom into a space of wisdom and connection. That’s because you’ve got the Wheel of Fortune energy to ride: a blessed energy, to be sure, but absolutely an unpredictable one. Add this to Eclipse season, Mercury retrograde, and Pluto retrograde, and there will be moments that will be a little rocky.

While this month may require more centering than normal, the fact of the matter is, you’ve been ready to pivot for quite a while. What you focus on grows. It is up to you to clarify what the main energies, identities, and values you will be embracing are. Let those branch out in beautiful and unexpected ways. Let those serve as your spiritual and practical GPS: anything else is a distraction. This month will highlight just how many distractions there are, and just how amazing you are at deflecting them.

You’ve changed, and you need to make decisions that reflect that. Stay in your zone, lane, and energy. This is your life, not anyone else’s.

Suggested spell ingredients: a month off of social media, a month taking your spiritual and energetic gifts seriously, focus, and talismans of growth and protection like gold, jade, and bamboo.

Aquarius
5 of Swords

If there was ever a month to make sure your T’s are crossed and your I’s are dotted, to look over all contracts, and to keep your lips zipped, this is the one. If there was ever a month to truly pause and consider other people’s motivations, it is May. The bad news is this month has the potential to be messy. The good news is this month has as much potential to be healing: particularly in some of the ways that you've betrayed and abandoned yourself. Lean towards the outcomes you want with your actions and your words. Stay honest with yourself, especially when you find yourself fighting battles that would be better left alone.

Let this month be a month of deep internal work, of telling new stories in order to rewrite the old ones. This can be a time to shift deep-seated beliefs into ones that support you. Decide what truths you wish to carry and abide by their light. Keep your communication clear and your discernment clearer. When in doubt…don’t.

Every morning, let your meditation and journaling set the tone of the day ahead. Each day, make an offering to your past self, your present self, and your future self. Every night, call your energy back.

Suggested spell ingredients: forgiveness letters to a past self, black obsidian blades, peppermint tea before bed, deep breaths, and crystal-clear communication.

Pisces
4 of Pentacles

This month will offer you the chance to change your perspective. Before we make spiritual leaps and bounds, we must alter our energy accordingly. Much of this month will be spent sinking into gratitude, counting your blessings, and energetically rising to the occasion of your highest vision.

Yes, things could be different. Yes, not everything is rosy. But there are many aspects of your beautiful life you’ve wanted for years. Celebrate by investing in the future. Adopt a new daily routine that bolsters your body and mind. Get more rest. All things material need your attention this month: what you own, where you bank, how much you save, how you care for your body, appointments, etc., need to be looked at and attended to. All matters of the mundane need your focus. While this may feel boring, it is actually deeply spiritual: these are all chances to show yourself, and Spirit, what self-care looks like in action.

A lot can happen in a day. A ton can happen in a month. Keep your gaze steady and your steps forward strong. Keep your eyes peeled for tangible confirmations of the miraculous and they will appear.

Suggested spell ingredients: magic numbers, gratitude baths, daily energetic cleansing, open windows, and raw kyanite.
